Update On Chibok: NLC, TUC, Tinubu, APC women lead protests

                          

LAGOS—FOR the second day running commercial activities in the Central Business District, CBD, of Lagos, including Governor Babatunde Fashola’s Office, at Alausa, were pralaysed yesterday as leaders of Lagos State councils of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, and thousands of women of the All Progressives Congress, APC, demanding immediate rescue of female students of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State abducted by the Boko Haram sect.

According to Vanguard The APC women, led by wife of former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and the APC woman leader in Lagos, Mrs. Kemi Nelson, converged at the Archbishop Vinning Memorial Cathedral in Ikeja, GRA, where the protest march took off.

NLC and TUC leaders, who stormed the governor’s office around 9 am, demanded more concerted efforts by the Federal Government and security agencies to rescue the girls unharmed and presented a letter to Governor Fashola for onward delivery to President Goodluck Jonathan.

They appealed to all well-meaning Nigerians, including religious leaders and the international community, to continue to put pressure on Boko Haram to release the girls unconditionally.

The letter read in part, “We call on Mr. President and our allies to spare no effort to ensure that the Chibok Girls are brought back to their families and the nation hail and alive. We know that they would have to undergo medical and psychological treatment to heal the horrors they may have been subjected to.”

On their part, APC women in protest, marched through Computer Village, Allen Avenue and terminated their protest at the State House, Alausa, where they delivered a position letter of the APC Women Wing for onward transmission to President Goodluck Jonathan.

The protesters, who wore red T-shirts with the inscription, ‘Bring Chibok Girls Back Now and Alive’, “Rescue our Chibok girls now”, also chanted songs, urging the Federal Government to expedite action in rescuing the abducted girls.

Speaking, Senator Tinubu said the abduction of the girls had exposed the ineptitude of the government to tackle the many problems of insecurity and unemployment facing the nation.

Nelson also called on the Federal Government to verify the authenticity of the latest video posted by Boko Haram, which shows about hundred of the missing girls wearing full Hijab for intelligence purpose towards the release of the girls.
