Pop star Davido‘s “AYE” music video has been named the most popular YouTube video on Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2014.

YouTube Nigeria has released its list of the most viewed videos from January to March. It includes the overall category, comedy category, reality category and music category.

No surprise, AYE also leads the music category; it had over 300,000 views in the first week alone. Also in that category are 2Face featuring T-Pain‘s “Rainbow (Remix)“, Dr Sid featuring Don Jazzy‘s “Surulere“, Tiwa Savage‘s “Eminado” and Shakira feat. Rihanna‘s “Can’t Remember to Forget You“.

Chris Brown is in Trouble jail sentence extended

     

Singer Chris Brown will serve an additional 131 days in jail after admitting to violating his probation, the BBC reports.

The R&B star admitted to a court in Los Angeles on Friday that he committed a crime in Washington DC last October.

The Los Angeles judge sentenced Brown to 365 days but gave him credit for 234 days he has spent in rehabilitation and jail.

Brown has been under court supervision since 2009 when he pleaded guilty to assaulting pop singer Rihanna, who was his girlfriend at the time.

The Grammy winner has been in custody since March, when he was arrested over alleged violations of his rehabilitation sentence.

His latest probation violation relates to an altercation in the nation’s capital last year.

Brown faces a misdemeanour assault charge after a man accused the singer of punching him outside a Washington hotel.

Gunmen kill two in Taraba

                              
Gunmen on Friday attacked Kano-Kambarawa Village in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba and killed two persons According to The Nation.

The Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, Joseph Kwaji, confirmed the killing in a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria in Jalingo on Friday.

Kwaji said the assailants attacked the village at about 10.30am.
“Yes, I can confirm to you that at about 10.30am, our men found two corpses in Kano-Kambarawa village.

“Our investigations revealed that the two men were shot by heavily armed herdsmen who stormed the village,” he said.

Kwaji, however, said that a joint patrol of mobile police and military personnel had been deployed to intensify security in the area.

The spokesman appealed to people in the area to stay calm, saying security personnel were on top of the situation.

Former Green Eagles skipper, Henry Nwosu, has insisted that Super Eagles will not miss the services of Ikechukwu Uche and Chinedu Obasi at the 2014 FIFA World Cup starting next month in Brazil.

Uche and Obasi were excluded from coach Stephen Keshi’s 30-man provisional World Cup list released on Tuesday evening.

In a chat with Goal, Nwosu who is Gateway United’s head coach is confident that players invited by Keshi will defy all odds to make the nation proud.

Borno state Gov Kashim Shettimain in tears as he declares 3-day fast for missing girls

                           
Borno State governor Kashim Shettima was in tears yesterday as he appealed to indigenes of the state to embark on a 3-day fast for the missing Chibok girls. The proposed fasting, which will run from May12th - 14th, is to seek the face of God over the missing girls and for peace to return to the state.

The Governor got very emotional while in a meeting with the Kibaku Area Development Association (KADA), Chibok, who came to protest the abduction of the missing girls.

“We are calling on all Muslims and Christians to embark on a three-day fast to seek God’s help toward rescuing our girls. All of us must fast because we worship the same God. There is no politics or religious issues in this matter because the abduction of the girls is something that should bother us all as parents, uncles and guardians" he said

The governor also expressed shock that some individuals believe the kidnap never happened, and is all a scam "It is unthinkable for anyone to say such a story could be fabricated." He said

Fraud: Court fixes May 13 for ruling on Ajudua’s bail application

                                   
According to The Nation An Ikeja High Court on Friday fixed May 9 for ruling on a bail application by suspected fraudster, Fred Ajudua.

Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye fixed the date after hearing arguments from Mr Seidu Atteh, the counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Ajudua’s counsel, Mr Olalekan Ojo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ajudua is being prosecuted for allegedly defrauding a former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt.-Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi of about $5.9 million (about N1 billion). Continue......

Nollywood actor, Bob-Manuel Udokwu has been appointed Senior Special Adviser on Entertainment by Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano. He made the announcement via a BB message yesterday.

 

The message read:

"The governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has appointed me Bob-Manuel Udokwu (FCAI) his Senior Special Assistant(SSA) on the Movie/Entertainment Industry with immediate effect"

Trader hides drugs in crayfish, melon, others

                                

A 38year old trader, Jude Izuchukwu, (pictured above) has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while trying to smuggle a 9.375 kilogramme of compressed cannabis out of the country, Punch reports.

 

The trader was arrested on Monday night while attempting to board an Ethiopian flight to China. the drug was found inside the suspect’s foodstuff. 

 

Izuchukwu who claims to be selling clothes at Lagos Island said he got into the business after he was duped;

"I sell clothes on Lagos Island. My business was doing well until I was duped of N5m. Since then, I have been living from hand to mouth. I bought the hemp for N104, 000 and I learnt that I could sell it for $9,000 in China. That was the reason I decided to smuggle drugs" he said

Parading him before newsmen,  the NDLEA Airport Commander, Hamza Umar said officers detected the drug when the suspect came to check in his luggage. The cannabis was concealed in dried fish, dried bitter leaf, crayfish, melon and other local food spices. The weight of the cannabis is 9.375kg"

Nigeria Police says they are ready to offer N50m for information

                      
According to The Nation the police yesterday offered N50 million reward for anyone with information on the whereabouts of the girls abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.

The girls were abducted from their hostel by the Boko Haram sect on April 15. The sect’s leader Abubakar Shekau has threatened to sell the girls.

Girls’ parents go on hunger strike

  

The Head, Chibok Community in Abuja, Mr. Hosaih Sambido, on Tuesday said some parents of the abducted girls had embarked on hunger strike to protest against the incident.

Sambido said this when a former Minister of Education, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, led a protest to the Defence Headquarters to demand the urgent release of the girls.

Sambido, who broke into tears while pleading for help from the military, said the development had instilled fear among female students in the area.

He said some parents had refused to eat as a result of the development.

The African champions Nigeria name 30-man provisional World Cup squad

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has sensationally left out Ike Uche from the 2014 World Cup, thus making good his earlier statements that the Villareal forward would not make the flight to Brazil. Keshi however selected Joseph Yobo and Osaze Odemwingie on a provisional squad released on Tuesday after the meeting he held with officials of the Nigeria Football Federation.

Goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim also made the list. The decision to include or drop Uche, Agbim, Yobo and Osaze was reportedly central during the first meeting held last month on the provisional squad. It was said that while the Technical Committee members were not too disposed to Agbim being in the squad, they wanted Keshi to include Uche whom he had publicly denounced. Jonathan allowed insurgency to fester, says Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, on Tuesday said the era of denial of President Goodluck Jonathan on the magnitude of the Boko Haram menace was over.

Soyinka said the President should have sought international assistance long ago before allowing the situation to fester and escalate.

He accused the President of failing to heed his earlier warnings and addressing the insurgency “very late and lackadaisically.”

He spoke on Tuesday during a global affairs interview television programme, Amanpour,on Cable News Network, monitored by our correspondent in Lagos. Continue......

Update on Nyanya school attack; Police arrest suspects of Nyanya school bus theft, recover the bus

                    
This morning, gunmen snatched a school bus belonging to Vines International Academy from the driver of the bus while he cleaning it at the gate of the school .

The Nigerian police released a statement some hours ago, saying that not only have they recovered the bus, they have also arrested two suspects (pictured above).

Nosike Ogbuenyi, the Special Assistant to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, in a statement, said the vehicle with registration number XG 246 GWA was recovered this afternoon in Lafia in Nasarawa. He said that the two suspects who were arrested were found in the bus.
