Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi has issued a rallying cry to his teammates as they prepare to face Bosnia-Herzegovina in their Brazil 2014 World Cup Group F clash on Saturday.
Nigeria on Monday battled to and a barren draw against Iran and need victory over tournament debutants Bosnia to improve thier chances of reaching the knockout stages.
Chelsea midfielder Mikel, who was voted the Most Valuable Player in Monday’s game, expressed his disappointment over the outcome the encounter and said “we can’t afford to drop another point in our remaining games”. Continue....
“We need to raise our game if we want to reach the next round,” supersport.com quoted Mikel as saying after the match in Curitibia.
“Naturally we’re disappointed because we know what it means to win the opening match at the World Cup. We thought we had a good chance of winning. We created some openings in the first half and I think we deserved to score. Iran kept us at bay, though, and they were well organised at the back.”
Meanwhile, Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi believes the Eagles will reach the second, despite their goalless draw against Iran, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
“We had all expected to wrap up the game within the first 20 minutes, but tension, anxiety and frustration combined to adversely affect the team,’’ Keshi said.
“But you know this is football. It is not the end of the World Cup; the boys had tried to score goals many times and their failure to secure early goals must have led to anxiety.
“We will give a try with the rest in the two matches left.”
